Removal of plaque and tartar buildup from above and below your gum line.

How to Honor National Dental Hygiene Month

Here are just a few ways you can honor National Dental Hygiene Month this October.

Maintain Good At-Home Oral Hygiene Techniques

Make your dental hygienist proud by practicing great oral health habits outside of the dentist's office. Here are the most important habits to practice regularly:

Brushing Your Teeth Twice a Day:

Brushing your teeth regularly is critical for maintaining your oral health. Plaque buildup can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. By brushing your teeth twice a day for at least two minutes at a time, you remove plaque and food particles that accumulate on your teeth. Make sure you brush all surfaces of your teeth using a soft-bristled toothbrush.

Flossing Daily:

Flossing is important for removing food particles and plaque from between your teeth where your toothbrush can't reach. By flossing daily, you prevent plaque from hardening into tartar and reduce your risk of gum disease and decay. If you find traditional flossing difficult, try water flossers or other interdental cleaning devices.

These foundational practices make up a good oral health routine. By making them a habit, you'll contribute to a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.

Visit Your Dental Hygienist Regularly

Routine visits with your hygienist will ensure your hygienist can provide excellent oral care. Consider scheduling a professional cleaning twice a year to remove stubborn plaque and tartar buildup and to catch early signs of decay or gum disease.

Refer a friend

The greatest compliment you can give your hygienist is to invite a friend or family member to our practice. When you refer someone you care about to our office, you're helping them improve their oral health while also spreading awareness about the importance of preventative care.
